Drawn in fine black ink on a white ground, the tiger head on this cushion cover is built from ornament rather than fur. Teardrops, dotted lines, scrolls and tiny circles fill the ears, the forehead and the ruff, while the eyes look calmly straight ahead from the middle of all that pattern.

The style is close to zentangle and mandala drawing, where a shape is packed with repeated decorative motifs. The bridge of the nose is shaded with a dense field of dots, the stripes turn into curling bands edged with beads, and petal shapes fan out beneath the chin like a collar.
