African Tiger Painting

A tiger's face looks straight ahead from a burst of golden shards in this square painting. Its pale green eyes sit under heavy black stripes, the pink nose and white muzzle are traced with fine whiskers, and the fur fades at the edges into angular flakes of amber, cream and white, like broken glass catching the light.

A painted face of gold and light

The brushwork is loose around the edge and precise at the center, so the eyes and the nose hold the attention while the background stays airy and bright. The white ground keeps the canvas light on a pale wall, and the square shape sits well above a sofa or a wooden bench, as the room photos show. Tigers have long been a favorite subject for painters, and our selection of the top 10 tiger paintings gathers some well-known examples. Other designs hang in our tiger canvas collection.
