Tiger Head Belt Savage

A whole tiger crouches inside the rectangular frame of this buckle, head low, one front paw reaching down and the tail curling over the top corner, with every tuft of fur sculpted in relief. Behind it, the leather strap is embossed along its full length with scrolling leaves and flowers between two beaded borders, and the tip ends in a pointed, carved shape.

A sculpted buckle on carved leather

The tiger breaks out of its frame at the paws and the tail, which gives the buckle depth from the side as well as from the front. On the reddish brown strap the embossing shows two tones, darker in the hollows and glossier on the raised scrolls, while the black version keeps a deep, even shine.
