Each of these earrings carries a tiger's head turned in three-quarter view, jaws open in a roar that shows its fangs. The face is cut from silver-tone metal, and every stripe, the narrowed eye and the line of the mouth are etched in black, which gives the small head depth and a slightly aged look.
The White Tiger of Chinese tradition
In Chinese tradition the White Tiger is one of the Four Symbols, the guardian of the west and of autumn, and these earrings take their name from it. The design itself is a realistic tiger head rather than a painted Chinese motif, and its pale silver tone recalls the white coat of the legend. Materials and fastening
The earrings are made of zinc alloy in a silver color. Each head hangs from a small ring on a fish hook ear wire with a coiled bead.
