A tiger stands on uneven ground across the cover of this pocket watch, head turned and jaws open in a roar, its stripes raised in relief. Blossoms hang from a branch above it, a small shrub grows near the lower edge, and beside its head stands the Chinese character for tiger, 虎. The whole case has an antique bronze-tone finish that darkens in the recesses and highlights the raised details.
A hunter case in the Chinese style
The cover opens on a hinge to reveal a white dial with bold black Arabic numerals from 1 to 12, an outer track numbered 13 to 24, and ornate hands. The bow and crown at the top are decorated, the rim is beaded and the back of the case is engraved with scrolling leaves and flowers. Size and movement
The watch runs on a quartz movement. The dial measures 48mm in diameter and the case is 15mm thick. It hangs from a matching 80cm chain.
