Two long ivory fangs hang from the upper jaw of this prehistoric cat, framing a wide open mouth painted deep pink inside. The animal crouches low, front legs stretched forward and shoulders hunched, as if about to spring. Its coat is a plain sandy tan with a paler muzzle, chest and belly, with no stripes, and its tail is short with a dark tip.
A cat from the Ice Age
The sculptor gave this figure the features of a saber-toothed cat rather than a modern tiger: powerful forelegs, a thick neck and a short, stubby tail. Folds and fine lines across the shoulders and flanks suggest muscle under the fur, and even the underside of the paws is painted with black pads. Our article what is a saber tooth tiger tells the story of the real animal. More big cats, prehistoric and modern, fill our tiger figurine collection.
Size and material
The figurine measures 15.5x6.1cm. It is made of PVC with smooth surfaces and stands on its four paws.
