The tiger on this pendant looks straight ahead, head and chest cut from a single piece of metal. Its stripes, the rims of its eyes and the line of its mouth are pierced or filled in black, so the face stands out in relief, from the dotted whisker pads to the chevrons running down the chest. A small bail joins the pendant to a fine box chain.

The pendant is shaped by the outline of the animal rather than set in a frame, with two rounded ears at the top and a tapering chest at the bottom. In gold tone the black recesses give the metal an antique look; in silver the contrast is sharper. In many traditions the tiger stands for courage, as our article on the tiger animal totem explains.
