Tiger Phone Case Old Representation

Painted in the manner of an old ink scroll, a tiger comes down a misty mountainside beneath a twisted pine branch. Its orange coat is brushed with heavy black stripes, its jaws are open on a red tongue and white fangs, and its tail curls up toward the pine needles. Dark rocks and pale gray washes of mist frame the scene.

A classic pairing of tiger and pine

The tiger beneath a pine tree is one of the oldest themes of East Asian painting, where the tiger stands for courage and the evergreen pine for long life. This design keeps the look of that tradition: loose brushwork on the rocks and branches, fine detail in the face and paws, and a diagonal walk that carries the eye from the top of the case to the bottom. Our article on the most beautiful tigers in the world looks at the real animals behind such paintings.
