A small brass tiger stalks low to the ground, one front paw pressing down on a round coin engraved with a pattern. Incised stripes cover its back and flanks, its head is lowered with the mouth slightly open, and its long tail stretches out behind with ringed bands to the tip. The brass has a darkened, aged finish that settles into the grooves and leaves the raised edges brighter.
Coins are a familiar symbol of wealth in Chinese decorative art, and a tiger set over one is traditionally read as a guardian of good fortune. In every photo the coin sits under that front paw. At this size the figure fits on a desk, a bookshelf or a windowsill, a small curiosity more than a centerpiece. Larger pieces wait in our tiger statue collection.
The statue measures 6x2x2 cm and weighs 85 g. It is made of cut brass, with fine sculpted detail on the face, the claws and the stripes.
